Biography
At age 9, von Bülow began his music studies with Frederick Wieck and later was sent to study law at Leipzig. He abandoned law and went to Zurich to study with Richard Wagner. He conducted in Zurich and St. Gall before going to Weimar to study piano under Franz Liszt. He composed and wrote reviews. His first concert tour was in 1853. In 1857, von Bülow married Cosima Liszt, Franz Liszt'sdaughter. von Bülow became the conductor of the Court Opera in Munich in 1864.
 
In 1866 the marriage was failing and Cosima and Bülow divorced. Cosima soon married his former teacher Richard Wagner. Then in 1875 for a year, von Bülow toured the United States doing 139 concerts. von Bulow married actress Marie Schanzer in 1882. He conducted and taught till he settled in Hamburg. He became ill and traveled to Cairo where he died.
