[English]

  1. A military bugle call, in the category of service calls, played to signal that all light in squad rooms be extinguished and that all loud talking and other disturbances be discontinued within 15 minutes.

See more about service calls in the Appendix.

  2. A performance that typically features military bands. This practice dates back to the 17th century when the military drummers would go into the towns to signal the troops to return to the barracks at the end of the evening. By the 19th century, this practice evolved into an evening show. Today, the tattoo is usually highlighted by marching formations and often solo performances. Also known as a military tattoo, this event can be held indoors or outdoors. They are held in sports stadiums, parade fields, and other venues throughout Europe and North America.
