lyric piece

[English]

A short instrumental composition that is typically very expressive and melodic and often represents personal feelings and moods. The lyric piece is similar to a character piece or program music, however, the composition attempts to create moods and feelings without the narrative of a program or depiction of specific people or actions.

Edvard Grieg composed ten books of piano compositions between 1884 and 1901. Each composition has a descriptive title "Lyric Piece" that is comprised of 66 short compositions with descriptive titles such as, Remembrances, Melancholy, To Spring, and Wedding Day At Troldhaugen.

Also, character piece, program music.
