A clarinet encompassing the low "c" (pitched one third lower than the "normal" clarinet). Invented in the late 18th century by clarinettist Anton Stadler and the instrument maker Theodore Lotz and beautifully utilized by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the Concerto for Basset Clarinet, K. 622.
