soundpost

SOWND-poest

[English]

A small, movable rod or pillar of wood that is used in string instruments, especially those of the viol or violin families. The soundpost is fixed between the back of the instrument and the belly, connecting the two, thus easing the string pressure on the bridge and distributing vibration throughout the instrument.
